intersex-education:

I would really appreciate it if people would spread this around! What YouTube is doing to LGBT+ videos and content creators is affecting intersex people, and, between the lack of intersex voices on the internet as a whole and the lack of people talking about intersex issues at all, this has a huge impact on what little we’ve been able to put out there.

One of the reasons we’ve been unable to create as much as other LGBT+ groups on the internet is because the stigma against us and how strong it is. What YouTube is doing is revoking the visibility we are getting and reinforcing the stigma that keeps us hiding.

The solution here is not as simple as turning off restricted mode. This sends a message to people that who they are is unfit to be seen, especially when done by such a huge, popular company whose tagline used to be “Broadcast Yourself”. And this still affects kids whoee parents won’t let them turn off restricted mode.

Please don’t just let this get 10 notes and disappear, please reblog this and make people aware. And, if you can, I encourage you to support intersex content creators on YouTube, including Emily Quinn (Intersexperiences), Pidgeon Pagonis, and Jenn Levine. You can find plenty of other good videos if you search “intersex” on YouTube.

I saw Wonder Woman, a film about a superhero who is a woman (unlike a man), and I am shook. I’d heard the kerfuffle over the Alamo Drafthouse offering women-only screenings, and like many of you, I laughed it off. “Who cares?” thought I. “Just a few crazy dames putting on their lipstick and letting the dishes soak while they go have their little hen party, watching a movie about some kickass World War I soldiers and their gal pal. Let ‘em have their fun before they come home. To whom? Daddy, that’s whom. Or who. Whichever is manlier.”

But let me tell you this, dear reader – and by “dear,” I don’t mean “my dear,” like a lady, because men, right now I want you to stop reading this out loud to your little lady. Go have her fix us a nice glass of Scotch. You read this alone. Stop moving your lips so she doesn’t see. Or move to a room she isn’t allowed in, like your tannery / bodybuilding studio. Good. Now that we’re alone, I can warn you: Wonder Woman isn’t about kickass World War I soldiers and their gal pal. It’s about a kickass gal and her World War I buddies. The men … they’re … secondary characters!

At my screening, there was an actual woman dressed as Wonder Woman in the crowd. Whole groups of ladies sat together, unchaperoned and eating food that appeared to not even be low-fat, as though they weren’t concerned with maintaining their figures. There were cheers when Wonder Woman leapt into the fray and fought men. Penis-having men! And she won! Pretty easily!

That sequence occurs in the grim no-man’s-land between English and German battlefield trenches. Though Diana has been told she can’t cross it and must play by man’s rules, she takes it upon herself to save women and children threatened by the Germans. It’s a very powerful moment. We have a character committing to her true self, doing what she believes needs to be done.

When we say that the United States is joining Syria and Nicaragua by not participating in the Paris agreement, I think it’s not fair to leave it at that, because neither of them refused to sign for reasons anything like the selfish ones of the United States.

Syria was under sanctions making it complicated to even attend, and on top of that were embroiled in intense civil warfare and not in a great position to make a commitment like that. They didn't disagree with it, but were never involved with the deal in the first place.

Nicaragua actually felt that the Paris agreement was not strict enough, arguing that they didn’t want to be complicit in a voluntary effort that didn’t properly allocate the responsibility to large countries for being the ones who poisoned the environment in the first place, nor impose a punishment on anyone failing to comply with the standards. Nicaragua is one of the countries that’s most affected by climate change but least responsible, and they felt that wasn’t fairly reflected in the accord.

The United States is the ONLY country that has rejected the Paris accord because of the belief that our environment is less important than our profit. Even oppressive regimes and the poorest nations in the world are smarter than that, or at least know when to keep their mouths shut and play along. The USA is not really in the league of Syria or Nicaragua, but alone in the refusal to cooperate out of pure greed.

I checked and it’s true: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2017/05/31/why-nicaragua-and-syria-didnt-join-the-paris-climate-accord/?utm_term=.a36d3a0d88e7

Apparently Nicaragua is closing in on being 80%+ reliant on renewable energies which is one of the most impressive amongst nations, I believe I read somewhere.
